The famous Stan Smith did not always bear this name. In 1964 Adidas wanted to create a pair intended for tennis lessons, a sport then booming. They then call on French tennis player Robert Haillet who designed the pair. It was not until 6 years later, in 1970 that the German brand with three bands signed a contact with Stanley Smith and thus renamed its “Stan Smith” pair.
If today everyone carries sneakers, at that time, they were still considered as sports equipment and it is the Stan Smith which is at the origin of this change!
