ELA , an association of families

Founded in 1992 by Guy Alba and a few parents, the European association against leukodystrophies ( ELA ) brings together families that are mobilizing to overcome these genetic diseases that destroy myelin (the nerve sheath) of the nervous system. Each week in Europe, 20 to 40 children are born from these pathologies which gradually lead to the loss of all sensory, motor and vital functions.

ELA 's missions to overcome the disease

Since its creation ELA has pursued the same missions:

Help and support families affected by leukodystrophy . Ela provides them with information on the disease, administrative, social, psychological but also material and financial support.
Supporting ELA research is one of the first financiers in leukodystrophies research. To date, 559 projects have been funded for a total amount of 47.55 million euros.
Aware of public opinion. Many events punctuate the life of ELA and contribute in addition to the collection of funds to make the leukodystrophies better known to the general public.
Develop its action at the international level. Ela is present in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Luxembourg and Switzerland. To federate the action of these ELA structures and because the research against leukodystrophies is global, Ela International was created in 2015.

To finance its missions, ELA created in 1994 the “Put your sneakers” campaign to raise awareness among schools from schools, colleges and high schools to leukodystrophies. This citizenship and solidarity operation mobilizes thousands of schoolchildren each year. This campaign is now available for businesses.
