The Nike Air Force 1, the star model of the American Swoosh brand Nike. Conceived for basketball courts by Bruce Kilgore in 1982, this shoe propelled Nike to the top. At the time, Nike was struggling to compete with Adidas in the basketball market. They therefore decided to entrust Mr. Kilgore with the creation of a new model, aiming to dethrone Adidas by creating a shoe with unparalleled performance. The shoe was given the code name AIR FORCE 1, like the American presidential aircraft. The name “Air Force 1” was intended to foreshadow the heights that athletes could reach with this new shoe and its revolutionary technology.
The Air Force 1 was the first shoe to be equipped with the AIR cushioning technology sole. This new technology is based on a system of different air units that better absorb shocks and do not deform over time. The design of the Air Force 1 was inspired by another Nike model, the Nike Approach. This forgotten hiking shoe model is the origin of the Swoosh brand's greatest success.
