The Nike Air Force 1 is undoubtedly Nike's most iconic shoe. Created in 1982 by Bruce Kilgore, and like most sneakers, it was designed for basketball. At the time, Nike was struggling to gain a foothold in the basketball market against its competitor Adidas. They therefore decided to entrust Bruce with the creation of a new shoe, aiming to create a shoe with unparalleled performance! The shoe was thus named Air Force 1 in reference to the American presidential aircraft and evokes the heights that athletes could reach with this shoe.
The Air Force 1's design is inspired by the Nike Approach hiking shoe and is the first Nike shoe to feature soles with AIR cushioning technology. This new technology consists of a system of different air units that absorb shocks more effectively and do not deform over time.
Since then, Nike Air Force 1s have constantly reinvented themselves! Especially with the latest Nike Air Force 1 Special Field. To date, there are over 1700 different versions of this iconic model from the Swoosh brand.
