The Stan Smith which owes its name to the Californian tennis player Stanley Smith has not always brought this name. The pair was created in 1964, Adidas wanted to create a pair for booming tennis. To do this, they call on French tennis player Robert Haillet who created the design of the pair. It was not until 1970 that Adidas signed a contract with Stanley Smith and thus renamed the “Stan Smith” pair. At that time, sneakers was still considered sporty equipment and not as everyday shoes. It was the emblematic Stan Smith that changed the situation in the 80s by winning outside the tennis lessons. 30 years after in 2011, Adidas announced the end of the legendary “Stan Smith” for 2012, the pair is no longer sold…
But in 2013, Adidas turned around and announced the return of the Stan Smith for 2014 to the delight of fans. Will Stan Smith have 30 years of glory again?
