The Stan Smith, named after the Californian tennis player Stanley Smith, wasn't always called that. The shoe was first created in 1964 when Adidas wanted to design a shoe for the then-booming sport of tennis. To do so, they enlisted the help of French tennis player Robert Haillet, who created the shoe's design. It wasn't until 1970 that Adidas signed a contract with Stanley Smith and renamed the shoe "Stan Smith." At that time, sneakers were still considered sports equipment and not everyday shoes. The iconic Stan Smith changed the game in the 1980s, becoming popular beyond the tennis court. Thirty years later, in 2011, Adidas announced the end of the legendary "Stan Smith" for 2012; the shoe was no longer being sold

But in 2013, Adidas reversed course and announced the return of the Stan Smith for 2014, much to the delight of fans. Will the Stan Smith enjoy another 30 years of glory?
